Our Services

Peterson Structural Engineers has acted as the structural design consultant on many above and below grade pump station projects for over 30 years. These projects include not only new pump station designs but also evaluation and upgrades of existing pump stations. Our experience in these types of structures ranges from the most basic of subterranean concrete vaults to complex caisson structures with masonry buildings above grade.

Featured Projects

Remote Pump Station #1
Structural Evaluation

2007
Client: Port of Portland

PSE was selected to provide an assessment of the existing conditions of the pump station located in a drainage ditch at the southwest corner of Riverside Golf Club in NE Portland. The pump house was constructed in 1987 and was intended to be temporary.
Included in the scope of this project were the review of original construction drawings provided, and a site visit for structural inspection and evaluation of existing conditions and the taking of measurements and photographs. PSE then provided structural calculations and analysis to determine the structural capacities of the various elements of the building. The project concluded with the preparation of a letter report of findings and recommendations for the structure to the client.

Hillsboro and Forest Grove
Facility Improvements

2006-2007
Client: Clean Water Services

As part of an existing flexible services contract, PSE was tasked with performing evaluation, analysis and design services for multiple existing elements of both Clean Water Services facilities.
Tasks included upgrade and repair designs to existing structures as well as installation of new elements to existing systems. PSE provided preliminary evaluation reports, repair options and preliminary cost estimates as part of the scope of work.

Amanda Court Lift Station
2005-2007
Client: Murray Smith & Associates

This project consisted of the design and generation of documents for a new pump station building.  PSE provided structural design and construction documents and performed construction services throughout the completion of the pump station in 2007.

Bonneville Antenna Housing
2005-2006
Clients: Digital Angel Corporation; Army Corps of Engineers; Bonneville Power Administration; Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission

PSE was contracted by Digital Angel Corporation, a leader in Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), to work on a multi-agency federal project for the installation of a new salmon detector system to be installed at the Bonneville Dam complex on the Columbia River. PSE was contracted to perform the structural design of the antenna housing for the PIT Tag identification system which, at the time of completion, is the world’s largest such system by several orders of magnitude.
PSE has worked with the antenna fabricator and the RFID systems engineer to pioneer innovative approaches to create a cost effective structural system that can be removed and replaced for upgrades and maintenance. The unique specifications of the antenna required that the antenna and all supporting structural systems be fabricated from fiber reinforced plastic (FRP – Fiberglass) and high density plastics.
