Vashon Island, Washington trails are being expanded thanks in part to PSE’s Project Engineer Mackenzie Lostra, PE! Mackenzie volunteered to help build a new trail connection at Island Center Forest. The new trail build is being completed by the Washington Trails Association, which “mobilizes hikers and everyone who loves the outdoors to explore, steward and champion trails and public lands”. As part of our Volunteer Time Off (VTO) Program, Mackenzie spent the day not only working on building the new trail, but also learning about the progression of trail building – from clearing greenery, branches, roots, etc. down to tilling the soil, and leveling and packing it for hiker/biker/equestrian use. Along with 5 other volunteers, a 20’ – 25’ section of new trail was completed! Big thanks to Mackenzie for volunteering her time to the Washington forest park trails!
