Peterson Structural Engineers (PSE) was honored to see the Reservoir 2B Replacement Project recognized with an American Council of Engineering Companies of California (ACEC California) Engineering Excellence Commendation Award at the annual banquet.
Teaming with MKN & Associates, the prime and civil engineer, PSE served as the structural Engineer of Record to support South Coast Water District’s critical infrastructure project. The project replaced a deteriorating reservoir with two new 0.1 MG welded steel reservoirs, designed to the latest seismic codes to ensure reliable performance during and after major earthquakes. Built on a steep, highly constrained hillside, the design required 25-foot soil nail retaining walls to stabilize slopes and create space for the twin reservoirs. The dual reservoir configuration provides essential redundancy, allowing uninterrupted service during maintenance or emergencies. The Reservoir 2B Replacement Project redefines conventional water storage practices by demonstrating how thoughtful, modern engineering not only meets technical standards, but also safeguards lives, builds trust, and strengthens communities for generations to come. Thank you ACEC CA for the recognition and for hosting a wonderful event held at the Disneyland Hotel. We are proud of the entire team that helped with this project’s success.
