When a roof mounted chiller unit needed to be replaced, Peterson Structural Engineers, Inc. was contacted to analyze the loading impacts of a 500 ton mobile telescoping crane on the surrounding structural elements. Loading analysis evaluated impact to underground utilities, including existing stormwater detention piping, as well as the below grade portions of the building. Steel traffic plates were sized to protect the underground piping from the crane’s surcharge loading, and below grade portions of the building, including an elevator core location where the floor diaphragm was discontinuous, were reviewed to ensure they would not be adversely impacted. On a future brewery visit, perhaps we can try the beer!
