Police Bureau Training Complex

PORTLAND, OR  / CIVIL STRUCTURES

Design of the new Portland Bureau Police Training complex required significant remodel of an existing warehouse. The 60,000 SF facility located on a 9.6 acre site enabled all police training operations to be centralized to one location, eliminating the 20+ mile separation between previous separate facilities. Structural design for the new facility incorporated a security controlled access lobby, administrative offices, conference and classroom center, defensive tactics, shooting range, driving course and a scenario village. Original structural walls were maintained as part of the redesign to minimize demolition. As part of the design, the concrete structure was seismically upgraded and natural sunlight was augmented at key locations via additions of windows and skylights. Additional unique design attributes included isolating the shooting range spaces structurally, acoustically, and mechanically. This project was awarded Top Finalist in the local Daily Journal of Commerce.
